• Locks of Love

My sister was on the tennis team at Pioneer High School.  She was a great player.  She trained at Boulatarie when we lived in Florida, and even met Pete Sampras.  Needless to say she was on Varsity.  Sometimes Varsity scrimmaged with the JV players, so the two teams knew each other fairly well. There was a boy, Robert, in my elementary school class (we were 7) whose sister played on the JV team.  He was telling me how she had [...]

    Owl You Need is Love

Owl You Need Is Love When I was young my dad and I found an injured owl.  We took it to a bird sanctuary in Ann Arbor.  Now, I realize that birds have a bad rep.  They poop everywhere, they carry tons of diseases, and they make a lot of annoying noises.  However, owls are mighty birds.  Just watch that new movie, Legend of the Guardians, that’s a true story you know!? So I’ll be the first to admit it [...]

    Meals on Wheels

When I was 17 my parents sent me to a wilderness program called RedCliff Ascent.  Immediately graduating this program I went to a therapeutic boarding school in Oakley, Utah.  Oakley (also the name of the high school) was composed of four programs: therapy, education, dorm life and modules.  Modules were held every Friday and Saturday and taught students different skill sets.  It could be anything from ceramics, snowboarding, white water rafting, skiing, mountain biking, dance and community service.  Clearly modules [...]

We got him from the local shelter here in Indy.  Meeting him as he was being flipped upside down by some 5 year old whose grandmother had taken her to the shelter to “look at the cute animals”.  Christened Marshmellow, I scooped him up as the little girl [...]

  • ASPCA

I’ll admit it.  I have a really weird obsession with animals.  When I was a child I wanted to be a veterinarian.  From saving baby owls, to discovering sicknesses in the pets at the pet store – we lived in a town-house for a couple years while my parents were building our new house and I was not allowed to have a dog.  So my parents permitted my taking care of rodents, such as mice and gerbils.  I wanted something [...]

  • TOMS

TOMS have become extremely popular.  I am not sure if that is due to the fact they are considered trendy, and many people think if they jump on the bandwagon they will somehow look cool, or if people are genuinely interested in donating a pair of shoes to those that are less fortunate.  But then I find myself asking the question, who really cares?  I don’t mind if someone just wants to look stylish, the outcome is the same, regardless [...]
